- We found our perfect house in the suburbs.
I love ramblers (or ranch homes – whichever name you prefer). They are quintessentially Min-Century Modern, and very popular in the suburbs of America post-World War II. They have large windows that let in lots of light. The one-level living is very convenient. Plus, the informal design is perfect for today’s living.
When my husband and I went looking for our first house together, we knew we wanted a rambler. After some search, we found “the one” in a suburb of Minneapolis. The brick wall in the living room hooked me in the moment I stepped in the front door. I also love the sunken living room. It has the big picture window and plenty of space inside and out.
You’ll see a lot of upcoming posts on this blog about our journey to put our touches on this house.
I’d love to do more research about our house and the neighborhood, see what I can find out about the developer. It’s obvious there were a select number of house plans available to those looking to build. If you look around, you see four or five styles within the neighborhood. Some are single story and others tri-level. I’ve noticed three other homes exactly like ours.
I think next door neighbors may have some great insights about the area. The two of them have been in their house for over 50 years. It’s great to have that historical perspective steps away.

Little bit same architecture than here in Finland.
