The Great Lighting Purge

Watch out everyone! It is the beginning of the Great Lighting Purge.

What’s that? It’s my attempt to get rid of some unattractive lights throughout our house and swap in more appropriate Mid-Century fixtures.

I know this is going to be a long process. There are a lot of fixtures I’d like to change out. But I have to start somewhere, and that place is the dining room.

Out with the old

The old chandelier in the dining room didn’t match the MCM design we wanted throughout the house.

The dining room light fixture was very prominent in the house since the room is open to the living room. I also felt it was so mis-matched to the style and time period of the house. That’s why I quickly said goodbye to the oil-rubbed bronze behemoth.

It took some searching to find the perfect chandelier – a piece that would be best in the space. I wanted something more fitting to the home’s Mid-Century Modern aesthetic, and I needed a fixture that provided good light in the space.

In with the new

I finally settled on a brass chandelier from Lights.com. It’s part of their Powell line, and I love the updated take on the MCM Sputnik style.

The chandelier retails for $399. But here’s a tip: if you’re a first-time customer to the site, you can sign up for a 10% discount. That was a great incentive to make the purchase. Plus, shipping is free on orders of $150 or more.

The light comes with energy-efficient LED dimmable bulbs (I don’t have them on a dimmer at this time). It also includes several hanging rods of various sizes, so the fixture can be placed in a room with a taller ceiling. Overall, I’m very pleased with how it looks in the room. What do you think?

Now, off to the next lighting purge.
