New Year’s Goals

It’s that time again. Time to plan and dream up some goals for the new year. This year I’m resolving to to tackle some big and small projects around the house. Here’s a look at a couple of things you can expect to see here and on Instagram and Facebook in 2019.

The lighting purge continues

The Great Lighting Purge of 2018 will continue into the new year. There are several light fixtures that need help, and a couple of ceiling fans that need to go. The biggest offenders are in the basement. I’ve been looking for some flush mount lighting that doesn’t hang too low, provides enough light where needed, and has a good Mid-Century Modern vibe. I think we might be getting close.

Finding the right color

I’m still loving the colors in the dining room.

The right color in the dining room didn’t find it’s way into the living room. I still love the Really Teal and Rock Candy by Sherwin-Williams that we chose for the dining area. However, the living room color seems to have missed the mark. It’s called Open Air by Sherwin-Williams. It’s a nice color, but I feel it’s a bit too baby blue for the room. That blue tint is most noticeable at night.

The picture below may not capture the true paint color. However, when you don’t feel a color, you don’t feel it. I’ll be searching in 2019 for just the right one to make the space pop.

This paint color in the living room is nice, but it’s just not working in the space.

Taming the backyard

The biggest project for 2019 is a planned redo of the backyard. Actually, it’s more of a start over. When we bought the house in June 2018, there wasn’t much to the yard besides weeds, overgrown shrubs, and trees in need of pruning. Grass was almost non-existent. A couple of hostas and day lilies were scattered along the foundation of the house.

The snow disguises the mess of the backyard. A major revamp is needed in 2019.

Plans for the new yard include a patio for grilling and dining, a fire area featuring the Condon-King Aztec fireplace I scored on Facebook, and lots of flowers. I love to garden. So the soon-to-be-former barren wasteland will be teaming with plants. I’d also love to add a small shed for extra storage.

I hope you follow along for some inspiration and insights into our planned 2019 projects.
