About Me

I’ll own this one: I was a strange kid. I was the weird one who looked at those books filled with home designs in the magazine rack at the grocery store. Ever noticed them? I was also the one who scribbled on stacks and stacks of paper, filling them with pictures of houses, floorplans, landscapes.

Allen circa 1980. Dressed to impress.

I decided to try and turn that passion into a career. But becoming an architect just wasn’t right. However, those interested haven’t left me. I still love thumbing through design books. Home remodeling shows are like a religion. And I could spend hours wandering the aisles of Home Depot on a Saturday morning.

Over the years I’ve come to appreciate and admire the Mid-Century Modern style. It’s sleek, sophisticated, and timeless. The era evokes thoughts of dinner parties, debonair men and women dressing up for a ride around town, and a scotch on the rocks.

Fast forward to this blog. I was looking for a creative outlet and wanted to share my thoughts about home design – specifically Mid-Century Modern design. I’ll admit this right up front. I’m not a design or architecture expert. I don’t have any formal training. But I still have that passion that existed all those years ago.

That passion has also been fueled by the purchase of a 1958 rambler in the suburbs of Minneapolis, Minnesota. There’s no shortage of projects around the house, and I’ll be chronicling them here. I’ll also share design ideas and inspirations that I stumble upon as my husband and I look to put our touches on our home.

I hope you enjoy this blog. I’d love to hear your feedback – good and constructive.

Happy reading!
